Bugging Out

Initially, at large distances the closure rate between aircraft will not be very noticeable. Under no circumstances are you to reduce your speed by pulling up as this will reduce the height difference between you and your Lead. If you have misjudged the rejoin, and cannot reduce your closure rate, level your wings, maintain height separation and fly through below, and preferably behind, the Lead, stabilising on the opposite side, advising "[Callsign], bugging out right/left". Keep the Lead above the horizon. When the Lead is ahead of the 3 or 9 o'clock line, another rejoin may be attempted. You must never stabilise your aircraft underneath the Lead aircraft. You should pass behind the Lead and achieve a safe separation from which you can manoeuvre to the rejoin line and complete another rejoin.

The Lead maintains straight and level flight while the Wing is carrying out the rejoin.
