Power Settings and Angles of Bank
During the climb, the Lead leaves the throttle at the position set at
take-off. Wings use power as required to maintain position. For the cruise, the Lead sets 21"
MAP or 2" less than full throttle MAP, whichever is less, and 2600 RPM. During a descent, the
Lead is not to set less than 17" MAP when Wings are in line astern, or less than 14" MAP when
the Wing is in echelon. This allows the Wing a small margin for a reduction in power during
the descent. Angle of bank is to be initially restricted to 20° maximum when the Wing is in
echelon, and 30° maximum in line astern, but can be varied if briefed. If at any stage, the
Wing is unable to maintain position due to lack of power, a REVS call is made.
This is where the Wing makes the radio call [Formation Leader Callsign],
[Callsign], Revs
. Lead will then reduce MAP by 2".
