Frequency Changes

Formations will change frequency whenever ordered by the Lead without acknowledging the order. Anticipated frequency changes will be briefed.

When changing radio frequency, the Lead will call [Formation callsign], push [new frequency], such as Red formation, push 119.1, or Viper formation, push CTAF.

After changing frequency, each following aircraft should then respond on the new frequency with [Callsign] in number sequence, starting with Lead. If one of the Wings does not respond within five seconds, the next in sequence should call in. The Lead can then make a decision to resolve the problem.

If a Wing changes to the new frequency but doesn't hear any responses on the new frequency, she or he should wait for five seconds and then change back to the previous frequency. When a Wing fails to call in after a frequency change, the Lead will return to the previous frequency and try to establish communication, and make a decision to resolve the problem.

Note: A frequency change order from the Lead is not acknowledged on the original frequency.
