Line Astern Station
This station is flown slightly stepped down from the Lead and an aircraft length directly behind.
The correct position is achieved by aligning the following points:
- Vertically
- Equal upper and lower surface areas of the Lead's mainplane are to be visible.
- Laterally
- Directly behind the Lead aircraft: ie, in the left seat you should be sitting directly behind the left seater in the Lead's aircraft. Slightly more of the left side of the Lead's canopy should be visible.
- Longitudinally
- The Lead's wingspan fills half of the formating aircraft's windscreen. The outboard flap hinges should be sitting just inside the edges of the elevator.
Wing's angle of bank should match Lead's at all times.
