Using the Fraction Creator

This topic describes how to use the Fraction Creator to turn time expressed as hours, minutes and seconds into a length of time expressed as a decimal.
Before you begin, if you cannot see the Fraction Creator pane and the Fraction Converter pane, you have ticked Hide Fraction Section. Select Options > Hide Fraction Section . The tick next to Hide Fraction Section disappears, and the Fraction Converter pane and Fraction Creator pane appear.
It is tricky to convert normal time into decimal time. This procedure explains how to use the Fraction Creator to calculate what fraction of time is expressed in time written in hours, minutes and seconds. The fraction that you create is expressed as a decimal, and the decimal can be expressed in hours or minutes.
  1. In the Fraction Creator pane, type the time you want to convert in the Hrs, Min and Sec fields.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • To calculate a fraction in hours, select Hrs below the Fraction Creator result field.
    • To calculate a fraction in minutes, select Min below the Fraction Creator result field.
    • To calculate a fraction in seconds, select Sec below the Fraction Creator result field.
  3. Click Convert.
The fraction you calculated appears in the Fraction Creator result field.
For example, to turn 2 hours 35 min 16 sec into a fraction expressed in hours, in the Fraction Creator pane type 2 in the Hrs field, 35 in the Min field and 16 in the Sec field. Select Hrs below the Fraction Creator result field, and click Convert. The result of 2.5877777 appears in the Fraction Creator result field.
